Shopping Plan: Week 28

*Week 28 of My Great Shopping Plan of 2010, where I attempt to stay on a budget and fill out my wardrobe*

H&M Ruffle Cardi: $8
Target Grey Printed Tee: $5

Via Revolve Clothing Exchange

After last week, I had $158 left in my clothing budget for the month of August.  Money was still tight this past week, since I don’t go back to work until tomorrow.  So I decided to take advantage of the awesomeness that is Revolve Clothing Exchange in Tampa, where you can receive store credit by trading in clothes that you don’t wear anymore.  I had about $18 in store credit from the last time I traded clothes, so I was able to get four new items.

Ben Sherman Dress: $12
Outlooks Tee: $4

The total for all these items was $29, but since I had $18 in store credit, I only spent $11.  The cardi will be an excellent layering piece for sleeveless dresses that might otherwise be too revealing for work.   The tees will be good for casual weekends, and the Ben Sherman dress will be fantastic for everyday wear, as soon as I alter the sleeves.

So, I spent $11, so I now have $147 left for the month of August.  I still don’t get paid for another two weeks, so I’ll probably end up having a bit of a shopping spree at the end of the month :)

Shopping Plan: Week 27

*Week 27 of My Great Shopping Plan of 2010, where I attempt to stay on a budget and fill out my wardrobe*

After last week, I was very much on track with my budget.  I still had $173 left for the month of August.  I didn’t buy very much this week either.  Since I work in the school system, my money has been limited during the summer, and it’s starting to get a bit low.  I go back to work in two weeks, so I’ll be fine, but it means that I’ve had to tighten my spending a bit.  I still managed to get one vintage jewel this week:

Vintage Cuff: $15 at Sherry’s Yesterdaze

I went into Sherry’s looking for some cool vintage housewares for my kitchen, since I’m currently obsessed with them.  I ended up coming out with this gorgeous cuff.  I love silver cuff bracelets, and I couldn’t pass up one with such beautiful engravings.  I think that the birds on this bracelet may be quetzals, or at least, that’s how I’d like to think of them, since quetzals are one of my favorite kinds of birds.

That was all I bought this week, so I still have $158 left for the month. Once I start getting regular paychecks again, I’m sure I’ll be doing more shopping.

Shopping Plan: Week 26

*Week 26 of My Great Shopping Plan of 2010, where I attempt to stay on a budget and fill out my wardrobe*

After last week, I had $69 left for the month of July.  I had every intention of going on a consignment shopping spree on Friday to spend the remainder of my July budget, but the cards weren’t in my favor, and I only found two items:

Navy dress: Soprano, $9
Pink printed tank: Caslan, $7

I bought both of these at Li Da La Consignment.  That navy dress fits beautifully and hits right above my knee.  I have a feeling that it will be a good canvas to create a lot of different outfit combinations.  The pink tank will work well for both casual outfits and work ones, but I’ll have to alter the arm holes slightly, as they’re just a touch too large.

After my lack of successful consigning, I went to a few neighborhood garage sales on Saturday, and found some crazy deals.

Sleeveless Shirt: Banana Republic, $1
Knit Cardigan: Kimchi and Blue, $1

Vintage Bracelets, 50 cents a piece!

Normally at garage sales, I never find clothes.  The ones I see tend to be in horrible shape, hideous designs, or nowhere near my size.  So I was stunned to find two recognizable brands in good condition.  The BR shirt will be perfect for work, and amazingly, it has no stains.  The Kimchi and Blue cardigan is cute, but I tend to have an aversion to buying knitted garments; since I’m a knitter, I’m really picky, and I prefer to make them myself.  But still, it’s a cute cardigan, and it’s giving me some ideas for a cardigan design I can knit myself.

I also got a couple of freebies this week:

Easy Street Flats, Free!

My mom told me that a friend of hers was getting rid of a bag of shoes, and she was trying to find a Goodwill to take them to.  I asked what size they were, and it turned out that they were 8s (my shoe size!).  I scored these two lovely pairs of (new) Easy Street flats in navy and gold.  Normally, I’m not into gold shoes, but when they’re free, I decided it was worth experimenting a bit.

So my total spending for the week was: $21.  So I still have $48 left from July and now I have another $125 for the beginning of August, which means I have $173 available.  Time for some serious back-to-school (work) shopping!

Shopping Plan: Week 25

*Week 25 of My Great Shopping Plan of 2010, where I attempt to stay on a budget and fill out my wardrobe*

Bz Yellow Quartz Earrings from The Peach Tree $15

After last week, I had $32 left in my budget for July.  I received my Boden items in the mail this past week, but unfortunately they didn’t fit.  I’m going to sell them on eBay (because Boden charges a fee to return items and I won’t get my shipping back, selling them on eBay actually gets me more money).  Since I’m not keeping them, I can add back $52 to my July budget.  So, I have $84 available.

The only thing I bought this last week was the above earrings.  I’ve bought from The Peach Tree before, and I really like her use of color and interesting gemstones.  She had a sale going on last week, so I decided to get these.  I’ve been wanting earrings with color lately, and since yellow is starting to become my signature, I chose these.  They’re cute and simple – the perfect little accent of yellow.  And, I got an awesome I *heart* Handmade bumper sticker with my earrings too!

So, I spent $15, so I have $69 left.  I’m doing really well with my budget this month, but I think that has largely to do with the fact that money is tight.  I’ve been doing very little clothing shopping.  School (work) starts back in a few weeks, so I’ll need to start thinking about some professional clothes soon.

Shopping Plan: Week 24

*Week 24 of My Great Shopping Plan of 2010, where I attempt to stay on a budget and fill out my wardrobe*

Garage sale finds, $9 total

Whenever a neighborhood garage sale happens, I love to hop on my bike and go treasure hunting.  I’m pretty picky, so sometimes I’ll come back with nothing.  Other times, I’ll come back with some amazing finds at crazy prices.  That’s what happened this past weekend.  I was a bit late getting started (11:00ish) but there were still a lot of good sales going on.  I found that fun straw tote at the first garage sale ($2).  It turned out to be pretty handy, because I carried all the rest of my purchases in it.  It’s a great carry-all, and will be perfect for trips to the beach, farmer’s market, or just to carry miscellany around.

The next sale I went to had a fantastic stash of vintage jewelry.  I got two beautiful creamy pearl necklaces (you can never have too many pearls!), some Sarah Coventry brooches and one matching earring (we couldn’t find the other one) for a mere $2!  I plan on turning the earring into a necklace charm.

At the last sale (which was an estate sale)  I got that beautiful yellow Vera scarf and the white straw hat.  I’m kind of addicted to yellow, so I know I’ll use the scarf.  I’m not so sure about the hat, but I’ve really been wanting a cute straw hat for the summer, so I figured it was worth a shot.  Those were $5 (a bit overpriced for a garage sale, but still cheaper than it would be at a brick and mortar shop).

So, after last week, I had $41 left for the month of July.  I spent $9, so now there’s $32 left.

Shopping Plan: Week 23

*Week 23 of My Great Shopping Plan of 2010, where I attempt to stay on a budget and fill out my wardrobe*

Cardigan: Isabella Rodriguez (Anthropologie)

Bought for $20 on eBay

After last week, I had $113 in my shopping budget.  Because money this summer is tight, I have been avoiding going out shopping for clothes.  But I haven’t stopped looking at eBay, and last week I found this glorious cardigan for a steal of a price!  I have been lusting after Anthropologie cardigans for a long time, but they are almost always out of my budget range.  Since my beloved white bolero cardigan is about ready to bite the dust, I was looking for a drapey, light-colored, 3/4 or short sleeve cardigan.  This one fit the bill, and it’s not polyester, so it’s awesome.

I did buy some stuff on Boden, but I’ll be posting it later on, since I haven’t received them in the mail yet.  So that I don’t lose track of my budget, I’ll go ahead and count it here.  I spent $52 with Boden, so that leaves me with $41 for the rest of July.

(By the way, ever wonder how I find such awesome stuff on eBay?  I wrote about about my eBay shopping strategies a few months back, so I thought it might be good to bring it up again.)

Shopping Plan: Week 22

*Week 22 of My Great Shopping Plan of 2010, where I attempt to stay on a budget and fill out my wardrobe*

Because I went over budget slightly in June, I started off July with $113 in my shopping budget.  This week, I took some of my old clothes that I no longer wear to Revolve Clothing Exchange, and got some store credit.  Here’s what I decided to spend it on:

Gray Tank: ??
Magenta long sleeve: Old Navy
Red tee: Target
Coral Tank: Target
Aqua tank: Target

Thanks to the awesomeness of store credit, all of these were free.  I’ve been in sore need of some new sleeveless tops for summer, and I really hit the jackpot on this trip.  I won’t be wearing that magenta long sleeve tee for awhile, but I was lacking in long sleeve layering tees this past winter, so this will help out once the temps drop.

So since I didn’t spend anything on these, I still have $113 for the month of July.  And Boden is having a sale.  I think I know where I’m spending my money this week :)

Shopping Plan: Weeks 20 and 21

*Weeks 20 and 21 of My Great Shopping Plan of 2010, where I attempt to stay on a budget and fill out my wardrobe*

Since I was crazy busy last week (see this post for details), my shopping plan post this week covers two weeks.  When we left off on week 19, I still had $25 in my shopping budget for the month of June.  I’ve been trying to not shop too much, because I know that money is about to get really tight near the end of next month.  Still, I managed to find some pretty awesome deals these past two weeks.

Keen Sienna Mary Janes, $20 on eBay

I’ve been stalking Keen Sienna Mary Janes for a long time, but I never found any at a price point I could handle.  I’ve been wanting more comfy, casual flats in fun colors.  When these showed up on eBay (new, in box!) for this low of a price, I couldn’t pass them up.  They’ve instantly become one of my new favorite pairs of shoes, and I will be wearing them a lot.

After these, my black Keen Barcelonas, and my yellow Born flats, I think I’ll be set for stylish flats for awhile.

I also made a trip to Target, in search of a new swimsuit for my trip to Siesta Key last week.  And I found one of those magic Target reduced price items that only happens once in awhile.

Target Tankini, $5 on sale

Black and white print that will go with my solid swimsuit bottoms? Check.  Cute x-straps on the back? Check.  Support for the girls? Check.  Within budget? Check.

Of course, then I also bought two pairs of capri leggings, one black and one gray, for $6 each.  Which put me slightly over budget.  But I’ve been looking for capri leggings that don’t dig into my midsection for awhile, and these were perfect.  No pictures right now, because it’s been in the upper 90s the past two weeks.  Once it cools down, I’ll be wearing these leggings alot.

So with the shoes, the swimsuit and the leggings, I spent a total of $37, which was $12 over budget.  I’ll subtract $12 from July’s budget, so I’ll start off the month with $113.

Shopping Plan: Week 19

*Week 19 of My Great Shopping Plan of 2010, where I attempt to stay on a budget and fill out my wardrobe*

Mustard Born Peony Flats, $22.50 on eBay

I just saw this exact style of flats at Nordstroms a few weeks ago, for $85.  I fell in love with them, but there was no way I could afford that price tag.  I keep a saved search on eBay for Born flats, so when this pair popped up in my inbox, I immediately started watching.  You know I have a thing for mustard shoes :)  I only bid $27, thinking that I would probably be outbid anyway, so I was stunned when I got them for such a low price.  I used to be so skeptical of eBay, but now it’s become my secret weapon for awesome bargains.  I can’t wait until this lovely little package arrives in the mail.

I had $47.50 left in my budget for June after last week, so now there is $25 left.  Things are about to start getting a lot tighter money-wise, now that school’s out, but I have a plan for that.  Hopefully, I will find a part time job.  In the meantime, I’ve planned a lot of things I can do that don’t require any additional spending.  We’ll see how it goes.

Shopping Plan : Week 18

*Week 18 of My Great Shopping Plan of 2010, where I attempt to stay on a budget and fill out my wardrobe*

I overindulged a bit in May, so I started off June with $74 to spend on clothes, shoes and accessories.  Here’s what I got this week:

Keen Barcelona Flats,  $16 on eBay

I wanted to get a pair of cute, casual weekend flats, and I adore Keens for their insane comfort (and waterproofness), so I decided to snatch these up.  They were well loved by their previous owner, but I used a suede brush on them, and they perked right up.

Black Ann Taylor Loft sleeveless tee, $3
DKNY Salmon Tunic, $3
June Daisy Pajama Pants, $3
Red Tank (not shown) $1.50

A trip to Salvation Army last week yielded some pretty good finds.  I got two lovely sleeveless summer blouses, which are both in good shape.  I also got a casual tank for working out (not shown) and some adorable sheep-printed pajama pants, because I always need cute pajamas.

That makes a total of $26.50 spent so far, leaving me with $47.50 for the rest of June.
