“And if you’re the type that gets finicky-finick”

This has been the week of comfy, put-together outfits.  I’ve been trying to meet the challenge of remixing outfits as the weather warms up, and it hasn’t been easy.  There have been a lot of days with repeat outfits that I didn’t photograph.  Adding a few new items to my wardrobe has helped to freshen things up a bit, but I’m still struggling to create new looks in the warm temps.  Cardigans have been my saving grace lately, and I’m dreading the 80 + degree temperatures that will soon become the norm for the next four or five months here.  Without the cardigan, this outfit would have just been shorts and a tee – which is a bit too casual for me most days.  A cardigan adds a nice dose of polish to it.  Right now I’m very much on the lookout for nice sleeveless blouses and light, short sleeved cardigans to get me through summer.

It’s come to my attention lately that I wear a LOT of blue.  Blue has always been one of my fall-back colors for clothing, because I’ve always loved how it brings out my blue eyes.  During the winter, I started adding a great variety of colors, but much of my summer wardrobe still centers around this hue.  I’m trying to diversify my wardrobe more now by adding yellow, green, fuchsia and other colors into my summer wardrobe.

What’s your fall-back color?

“Dandelions are beautiful”

There’s something about the beginning of spring that calls for beautiful, cotton dresses.  I figured Easter day was the perfect day to debut one of my newest ones.  When I first saw this dress on the rack at a local consignment store, I was immediately drawn to the pale yellow color, but I wasn’t sure if it would make me look washed out.  Once I tried it on, I realized that it was perfect.  The fit is very flattering.  The pattern is subtle and beautiful.  The only problem I had with this dress is the lack of waist expansion capability.  I ate a big dinner at my parent’s house, and that slim fitting waist was feeling a bit uncomfortable.  Still, it’s a lovely dress, and I know I’ll wear it a lot.

Since it was my first time wearing this dress, I decided to keep it simple and just add white sandals and simple silver accessories.  For work, I’ll probably add a cardigan or cropped blazer, with some closed-toe heels.

Do you use Easter as an excuse to wear something new?

“No sense of what was proper”

Last week, I styled this skirt to look like Joan Holloway.  Today, I went with more of a Peggy Olson look.  I love how vibrant all the colors looked together.  I’m not so sure how I feel about having all black on the bottom half of my body, though.  I think this would have looked amazing with some white pumps.   I know a lot of style advice columns recommend matching shoes to tights to elongate your legs, but to me, it felt just a bit boring.

Originally, I was going to wear a strand of pearls with this outfit, but that felt just a bit too prim and proper.  Tying the blue scarf in a bow threw an extra color into the mix, while still retaining the vintage flair of the outfit.

Unfortunately, this will probably be the only time I’ll wear this green sleeveless button-down.  I got it while thrifting last week, but it’s a bit too short and the arm holes are a bit tight.  I could fix the arm hole problem, but the length is a bigger concern.  Even though this is my highest-waisted skirt, the blouse kept popping out when I would sit down.  I don’t like garments that I have to constantly fuss with, so this will likely go to the swap pile.  I might hang onto for a bit longer in case I get some true high-waisted skirts.

Do you incorporate vintage stylings into your wardrobe?  How do you make them look modern?
