“I like to try a lot of different things”

I mentioned last week that I was planning on trying a new cut for my hair and here it is.  Honestly, I’m not sure what the verdict on it is yet for me.  My boyfriend absolutely loves it, and sometimes I do too, but other times, I feel “meh” about it.  I wanted a cut that would transition well for growing my hair out long again, and I wanted to experiment with short bangs.  They can be a lot of fun, but they make me feel kind of like I have to wear eye makeup and showy earrings, otherwise I look a little boyish.  They’re also making me really want to go back to contacts, because I don’t think they suit my glasses frames well.  But anyhow, hair is hair.  Once I get the hang of how to style it, I’m sure I’ll like it better.  And I’m planning on growing it out anyway, so I planned for this to be temporary.

Have you ever had a hair cut that you weren’t sure about at first, but ended up liking later on?

“I’d like otters to be friendly”

Ah, the perils of Florida summer dressing.  Outside, it is blisteringly hot and humid.  Inside, air conditioners are running at full capacity, making it freezing  As I’ve said before, with weather like this, layers are key.  I was attending some work trainings last week, and I had no idea how cold the building they were in might be, so I came prepared.  I had on a sleeveless blouse, and wore a cardigan and a light silk scarf for some extra warmth.  As it turned out, the A/C wasn’t working very well, so I ditched the layers inside.  But I’m telling you, if I hadn’t, the A/C probably would have been freezing.  I always prefer to be prepared for anything.

There’s nothing I love more than a soft, drapey outfit.  Lately, I’m finding myself more and more drawn to comfy, flowing outfits.  Maybe it’s just the vibe they give off, or maybe it’s because I’ve been practicing yoga more, and I’m really loving clothes that allow for a full range of motion.  Either way, I’m lovin’ this outfit.

Random note: Isn’t it awesome how my scarf and shoes match?  I was so excited when I realized this :)

Do you prefer drapey garments, and or structured styles more your thing?

“Have some fun in the sun”

After talking about how I wear a lot of blue the other day, here is another primarily blue outfit.  Oh well.  I just recently altered these capris from a pair of slacks, and they are perfect for slouchy spring weekends.  The fabric is a nice, light-weight cotton, and they fit just loose enough to be really comfortable without looking too sloppy.  I’m still working on figuring out new color combinations for them.  So far I mainly pair them with white and blue, but I’m hoping to branch out soon.

This outfit is made up of entirely second-hand and handmade items, which I think is fitting for Earth Day.  With so much of modern fashion being made to be disposable, buying second-hand garments and giving them new life is a great way to fight the cycle of waste that our society has developed.  And buying quality handmade items ensures that the things you buy will last longer, and you’ll be helping someone make a living doing something they love.

What are you doing to help the planet this Earth Day?

“Wake up the street”

Between starting my new job as a media specialist (school librarian) today and letting go of the pressure I was putting on myself with blogging and blog-reading, I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.  I’m free now to enjoy life, I’m free to take fun and happy photos, I’m free to stop worrying quite so much about making it to my next paycheck, I’m free to participate in this lovely blogging community because I want to, not because I feel obligated.  It’s amazing what a change in perspective can do to lift one’s spirits.

My smiles feel genuine again, and I’m enjoying writing this blog and sharing with my readers more than ever.  It is so good to have an outlet where I can share with others, to have an excuse to take fun and joyful photos everyday, and to hopefully pass some of that happiness along to others.

When I took these photos, I had just finished up a long and stressful day of dealing with bureaucratic paperwork and processing for my new job, wrapping up tasks at my old job, and retrieving my car that had been at the mechanic for almost a week.  But when I took these photos, I was able to leave all that stress behind and have fun.  Having fun is the best stress-relief ever.

Do you incorporate a little fun into your life everyday?  Why not jump in a puddle while wearing wellies? Skip rope? Draw with sidewalk chalk?
