*Closed* Giveaway: Hana Elite Flat Iron

(Edited to add: I just found out that this is only open to U.S residents, because this specific flat iron is not dual voltage)

Misikko contacted me several weeks ago, offering to let me try one of their professional flat irons, the Hana Elite.  I was more than happy to oblige.

Most work mornings, I blow dry and style my hair with a round brush.  But on the weekends, I often like to let it air dry, which leaves it looking a bit too un-styled for me, as seen in this picture:

Before

So, I used the Hana Elite Flat Iron, plus some hair product to protect my hair from heat damage, and styled it.

After

And I’m sold!  With previous flat irons I’ve tried, my bangs will always getting disheveled by the end of the day.   But with the Hana Elite, they stayed straight for days (until I washed my hair again).  I love how it has very specific heat settings, and the flat iron includes a guide as to which temperature is right for which type of hair.

In addition to the Hana Elite, be sure to check out the Chi Flat Iron, FHI flat iron, and other flat irons that Misikko has to offer.

This giveaway is for a Hana Elite Professional Flat Iron, worth $200!

The eShakti Woman Contest

You may remember the beautiful purple wrap dress from eShakti that I wore last week.  I really like this company.  The quality of what they sell seems to be very good, and I love how they offer customization options.  I wanted to let you know that they now have a contest going on that could let you win a $250 gift certificate to their store!  Here’s the details, from their site:

Who is the eShakti woman?  What does she do?  Is she under 30 or over?  What would you say about her lifestyle?  Her income?  Her educational level?   Most importantly, what kind of person is she in her head?  No answer can be wrong.  But some answers can be more right than others!

eShakti offers distinctive clothes for the full size range and also offers custom clothes which can also be custom-styled.

What kind of woman would shop at eShakti?  Where else would she be shopping as well?

Who do you think is The eShakti Woman?  Enter The eShakti Woman contest and tell us!

  1. Who is the eShakti woman

(describe her in less than 25 words)

  1. Mention three items of clothing on eShakti today that you feel best represent eShakti for you

(in 30 words or less, say why you chose these three)

Answer the two questions above and win up to $250!

One first prize of $250!

And 25 prizes of $50 each.

And everyone wins – every entrant gets a $10 Gift Certificate from eShakti (Only one per entrant please!)

And no need to purchase anything to enter the contest!

eShatki will choose the winners based on both the quality of thought and the relevance to eShakti.

Contest valid until March 31, 2010

(CLOSED) Giveaway: Knitted gloves and mittens!

It’s my birthday this week (Thursday) and I thought it would be nice to celebrate by offering a giveaway to my fabulous readers.  Since it’s still going to be pretty cold for the Northern hemi for a little while, I thought some nice warm mittens and gloves would be perfect (and winter will be in the Southern hemi before you know it).

This giveaway is open to everyone, everywhere!

The gloves are knitted alpaca gloves from Village Shoes (they aren’t affiliated with this contest, but they are awesome and you should still check them out.)  I won these gloves in a contest, but I’m allergic to alpaca, so I want to pass them on to someone who can give them the love they deserve.  They really are gorgeous, and very soft and warm.

I handknit the mittens myself, using Elizabeth Zimmermann’s mitered mittens pattern.  The yarn is a soy/wool blend, and it is very soft and warm.

The winner will receive both pairs!

To enter this contest:

  • Leave a comment on this post telling me what the coldest temperature that you’ve ever experienced was, and where you were when you experienced it (for me, it was 13 degrees, in North Carolina.)
  • For an additional entry, follow my blog using Google Reader, Bloglovin’, or any other service, and let me know how you are following my blog in a second comment.
  • For another entry, tweet about this contest on Twitter, including @dianalynnsmiles in the tweet, and post another comment here letting me know that you did so.

That’s three chances to enter!  Be sure to post a new comment for each entry.  This contest will go until midnight EST, Friday February 26.  I’ll announce the winner on Saturday.

Handknit Hosting Fundraiser

I mentioned last week that I was getting ready to switch my blog over to WordPress.org and a new hosting service.  This will give me more control over the appearance and operation of my blog, and it will also pave the way for offering sponsorships.  However, I didn’t realize at the time that it requires an initial investment of money to start the hosting service, which I don’t really have right now.  So I decided to have a handknit hosting fundraiser to raise money.

All these items are handknit by me, and I’ve linked to the original posts about each item when available.  If you’re interested in purchasing one of these items, send me an e-mail using the contact link in the sidebar, or by leaving a comment, and I can send you a PayPal invoice.  All of these items are one of a kind, and I am selling them on a first come, first serve basis.  US shipping is included in the price.  If you are outside of the US and would like to buy something, just let me know and I’ll look up the shipping cost and adjust the price.

Thank you so much for all your love and support!  I think I have some of the most awesome readers.

This beautiful scarf is completely one of a kind.  I spun the yarn myself on a drop spindle, and then knit it up in a one-by-one ribbed pattern, making it look the same on both sides.  The yarn is a soft merino with lots of color and character.  Due to the nature of handspun, some sections of the scarf are thicker, while others are thinner.  It is 57″ long and an average of 4″ wide (some sections are a bit wider, while others are a bit thinner, again due to the nature of the yarn).  You can see the original post about this scarf here (I’m so glad I smile in pictures now).  And here’s a post about the yarn.  I’m asking $50 for this scarf.

Next we have the Crochet Squared Messenger Bag.  This is an original pattern of mine, and the purse it totally unique.  The yarns are a wool/acrylic blend, a cotton/wool blend and a little that is 100% wool.  The inside of the bag is lined with some olive cotton fabric, and the strap is reinforced with fabric too.  It can hold quite a lot, and it’s very sturdy.  The body is 11″ wide, 12″ tall and 2″ deep.  The strap is 2.5″ wide and 42″ long.  I’m asking $50 for this.  You can see the original post here.

(SOLD) This scarf is knit with 100% superwash merino (though I recommend hand-washing all knits).  It’s soft and cozy, and can work nicely on its own or layered under another scarf for extra warmth.  I’m asking $20 for this.  The original post is here. (SOLD)

If I can sell all of these, it will completely cover the cost of hosting for a year, as well as help cover some other costs.  If you’re interested in any of these, please let me know as soon as possible, because they will be sold first come first serve.

More Housekeeping!

Don’t forget, you still have until 12:00 tonight to enter the Nepali Scarf giveaway!

This weekend, I will be transitioning the blog from wordpress.com to wordpress.org, which will also mean changing over to a new hosting service.  This will allow me to do more to customize the blog and make it easier and smoother for you to read and navigate it.   I do not anticipate any downtime, but it is possible.  The url will still be SmilesGoWithEverything.com, but is is highly possible that the old url of kittyscreations.wordpress.com will no longer forward after this transition.  So please make sure that you have update your Google Reader/blog roll etc with the new url.

Thanks everyone!
