Hi and welcome! I'm Diana, and this is my blog, Smiles Go With Everything. As the title suggests, I write about a little bit of everything, but the majority of my focus is on style and sustainability and how the two interconnect. In between are sprinklings of baking, gardening, crafting, and whatever I feel like sharing.- Powered by Google Translate.

Etsy Love: It’s a colorful world
*Every Wednesday, I take a look at some of the beautiful items found at one of the best places for buying and selling hand-made and vintage: Etsy. Buying hand-made and vintage lets you own beautiful, unique objects with character. It keeps things out of the landfills and supports artists and small businesses who are trying to make a living doing what they love. If you have a particular theme you’d love to see, drop me a line and let me know. *
Today, I decided to create a different kind of Etsy set; I took a look through my favorites, and picked out the first six colorful items that caught my eye, creating a post that has a little bit of everything. Enjoy!
A Bunch of Buttons on One Bag, $35
Upcycled Italian Coffee Pot, $35
Heart Penny Rug Folk Art Pillow, $150
(Something interesting I noticed while putting this together – when it comes to things around the house, I’m very drawn to vibrant colors. When I comes to jewelry, I tend to prefer things to be more subdued. I don’t really know why this is.)

I’ve loved photography ever since I was a kid with a cheap film camera with no zoom or special features, trying to snap pictures of birds on telephone wires. I’ve upgraded since then to a Canon Rebel DSLR, and my love of photography remains. If you’re a shutterbug like me, then you’ll love these camera themed items that I found on Etsy:
Slide Tube Cuff, $45
(it’s made from the innards of a telephoto lens)
Vintage Brownie Camera Tote Bag, $16
Diana Vintage Camera Graphic Tee, $18
DSLR Camera Bag in Turquoise Plaid, $115

Hey wait a minute, didn’t I write about jewelry organization yesterday? Why yes, I did. But I decided it would be a nice tie in to feature some fantastic items on Etsy that are great for storing and displaying your jewelry. Some are vintage, some handmade. Some are very affordable, others are more expensive. But again, it’s better to buy something a bit more expensive that’s handmade than to buy cheap items at a big box store that will fall apart in a year.
Here’s some lovely jewelry organization items I found on Etsy:
Cup holder or jewelry holder, $15
Elegant 54 Pair Earring Holder 20 Peg Jewelry Organizer $39.95
“We did nothing at all”
On my last few days of summer, I’m craving simplicity. Short, t-shirts and sandals are pretty much all I want to wear. I wore this outfit this past weekend, and today I go back to work. I guess I wanted to get as much mileage out of my summer casual clothes as possible, since this week it’s time to go back to professional wear. It’s been a great summer, but I’m looking forward to having structure to my days again, as well as a reason to get dressed up.

Since I mismanaged my time yesterday and didn’t get a post written, I decided to make today’s Etsy Love post clock-themed. There’s a plethora of vintage and hand-made clocks on Etsy, but I decided to focus on clock inspired things you can wear with this post. Enjoy!

Blue Face Copper Dial Handmade Wristwatch, $115

I’ve been doing a bit of antiquing this week, and I’ve become completely smitten with vintage kitchen items. In particular, ones that are sunshine yellow. And I’m thinking of gradually phasing out all of my random chipping Walmart (ugh!) and Kmart dishes and bowls in favor of some of these vintage beauties.
Dansk Sunshine Yellow Enamel Pot, $35
Yellow Salt and Pepper Shakers, $8
Sunshine Yellow Pyrex Bowl Complete Set, $118
Very Yellow Copco Canisters, $12
Sunshine Yellow Pitcher, $8.50
Etsy Love: Handmade Luxury v2
A little over a year ago, I posted an Etsy Love post on items on Etsy that were over $100. I decided to revisit this again today. I’ve repeating what I said a year ago here, because I still strongly believe in it today. These are my reasons for why I feel that spending $100 on an item for Etsy is more worthwhile than spending that amount from a larger store:
“One, if you spend $100 on something from Etsy, that $100 is going directly to support an artist, rather than some department store or corporation. Two, if someone on Etsy is charing $100+ for their wares and people are buying regularly for them, the chances are quite good that the items are of very good quality and will last you a long time. Three, many items in this price range are extremely unique, so you never have to worry about someone else wearing the same thing as you.”
Check out this selection of amazing handmade luxury from Etsy:
Champagne Diamond Cuff in Sterling Silver, $588
Etsy Love: Ohh, Fashion!
Do I have the David Bowie song stuck in your head yet? Good. I’ve been kind of frustrated with the clothing retail scene lately. It seems like it’s hard to find exactly what I’m looking for in stores. Either something won’t fit right, a seam or detail will be something I don’t like, or the neckline is too deep, etc. I’m thinking that maybe what I need is to invest in some really awesome handmade clothes from the artists on Etsy. Many Etsians are willing to work with you and customize a garment to fit your needs. Clothing on Etsy may cost a bit (or a lot) more than some retail, but the quality can be excellent, and it feels good to know that you’re paying an individual artist rather than a corporation who’s benefiting off of sweat shop labor.
(Note: I’m not saying that all brick and mortar retail stores are bad. It’s just often a lot harder to find out exactly where and how your clothes are made when you buy from big stores. But there are certainly exceptions, and there are some fantastic and ethical companies out there.)
Here’s some clothing pieces from Etsy I’ve fallen in love with lately.
Black and White Stripey Oversize T-shirt, $95
Striped Hemp Racer-back Cowl Dress, $99
Grey Cotton Pin-tuck Skirt, $85
Etsy Love: Initially in Love
I love initial charms. I wear an initial necklace from Kira Ferrer quite often, and it’s one of my favorite items of jewelry. There’s something so lovely and classic about initial jewelry – it’s one of those things that never go out of style. Here’s some great initial pieces from Etsy:
Vintage Letterpress Necklace, $33
Initials Necklace with Gemstone, $42.50
Vintage Typewriter Key Necklace, $14
Simply Stated Flower Necklace, $26
The Original Family Tree Initial Necklace, $39
Etsy Love: Fancy and Filigree
I love the beautiful and intricate lace patterns of a good filigree, so I’ve devoted this entire Etsy Love set to jewelry pieces featuring this technique.
Leaf Drop Filigree Matte Gold Earrings, $18
Filigree Antique Gold Locket, $21
Antique Brass Filigree Cuff Bracelet, $18.50
Rose Filigree Ring in Blue, $11
Madalyn Painted Filigree Necklace, $25
