Bento Box: August 16, 2010

*Welcome to Bento Box Saturday!  Every week, I post a photo of one of my bento lunches.  I use a Laptop Lunches bento box and I love it because it helps me to reduce the amount waste I create, since I don’t produce a lot of extra garbage from throw away packaging.  To learn more about how I pack and carry my bento, check out this post*

This week I packed my bento with:

  • Romaine, radish and celery salad
  • Balsamic Vinaigrette
  • Home made bread
  • Cherries
  • Ham and Veggie Soup
  • Almonds
  • Dark Chocolate

  1. Your bento boxes always look so yummy! It makes me want to get a laptop lunch box, only I don’t carry my lunch to work (I usually go home). What recipe do you use for your homemade bread?

  2. Mmmm… the cherries. Your lunch ideas are inspirational, thank you! Do happen to have any breakfast tips (besides your delicious home-made bread)?

  3. M – Honestly, I eat the same thing for breakfast everyday – hot oatmeal with frozen blueberries mixed in.

Tara – I’ll be writing up a post on my reusable baggies this week. I bought them from TerreMum on etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop/TerreMum
It’s linen and cotton – no plastic, although there are other sellers who use laminated cotton. It isn’t completely air-tight, but I only keep dry snacks in them like almonds and trail mix, so it doesn’t really need to be. It closes with velcro.

Anna – I used the recipe for Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread found in The Joy of Cooking: http://www.amazon.com/Joy-Cooking-75th-Anniversary-2006/dp/0743246268/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1282503449&sr=8-1

  4. Wow what a great find! The laptop lunch/bento box looks like the perfect (and totally eco-conscious) way to transport lunch where ever you go. I love having a variety of food and nibbles to choose from, and I always end up with a baggie or two at the end despite trying to pack everything in tupperware. This is the perfect solution! Thanks!
