“Oh the jobs people work at!”

I wore this last week when meeting the district support team for media specialists.  I wanted to be polished and professional, since this was my first time meeting most of them.  I think the outfit came together quite nicely.  All the color allowed me to feel “me”, but the structure of the blazer and pencil skirt plus the smart heels kept me looking sharp.

Putting together outfits like this over the next few months will be very important.  I want to make sure that I am constantly making a good impression, because how I do over these next few months will determine whether or not I get to work at the same school in the fall.  Learning to dress in a way that is professional, while still incorporating my own personal style, is going to be an enjoyable challenge.

I love how it looks like I’m flying in that picture.  Fun pictures really are the best pictures ever.

What do you wear when you want to make a good first impression?

Blouse: Anthropologie
Blazer: Forever 21 (thrifted)
Skirt: Semantiks
Shoes: Clarks Apple Sky
Purse: Vintage (via Advintagous)
Necklace: Coryell Design
Watch: Target

  1. Those colors are awesome together, and you do look rather smart indeed! Love the pictures and hmmm…… when I want to make a good impression, I wear some color but keep it simple. I want to show my personality in a professional way, and definitely want to wear something that is comfortable.

  2. These colors are great together and on you. You really do that pale blue justice!

I don’t have a go-to outfit but when I want to make a good impression in my career, I just make sure I look polished and clean (I usually go toward the more boring side of makeup and hair – they can learn to love my crazy waves and bright lipstick once they already know me!) and conservative. Sometimes though it’s hard to toe the line between well-fitted and appropriately conservative (since loose clothing does NOT look that great on my figure).

  3. You do look like you’re flying! Great pic and I like your choice very much.
My current “go-to” outfit includes a teal cord blazer which is smart-casual and is a color I love. I may have to find a new choice for spring though!

  4. You really are flying!

That’s the perfect outfit for work: professional, yet stylish.

I have to wear conventional mens suits for work and there’s little one can do with that. I personalize my outfits by choosing ties that are full of interesting color and design.
