It’s my birthday this week (Thursday) and I thought it would be nice to celebrate by offering a giveaway to my fabulous readers. Since it’s still going to be pretty cold for the Northern hemi for a little while, I thought some nice warm mittens and gloves would be perfect (and winter will be in the Southern hemi before you know it).
This giveaway is open to everyone, everywhere!
The gloves are knitted alpaca gloves from Village Shoes (they aren’t affiliated with this contest, but they are awesome and you should still check them out.) I won these gloves in a contest, but I’m allergic to alpaca, so I want to pass them on to someone who can give them the love they deserve. They really are gorgeous, and very soft and warm.
I handknit the mittens myself, using Elizabeth Zimmermann’s mitered mittens pattern. The yarn is a soy/wool blend, and it is very soft and warm.
The winner will receive both pairs!
To enter this contest:
- Leave a comment on this post telling me what the coldest temperature that you’ve ever experienced was, and where you were when you experienced it (for me, it was 13 degrees, in North Carolina.)
- For an additional entry, follow my blog using Google Reader, Bloglovin’, or any other service, and let me know how you are following my blog in a second comment.
- For another entry, tweet about this contest on Twitter, including @dianalynnsmiles in the tweet, and post another comment here letting me know that you did so.
That’s three chances to enter! Be sure to post a new comment for each entry. This contest will go until midnight EST, Friday February 26. I’ll announce the winner on Saturday.

I experienced -22 celsius (- 7 F) in Oslo Norway a couple of years ago. You don’t feel really cold but your face starts to burn as it’s slowly freezing… Like a chicken fillet in the freezer except it happens faster! But I live in Greece now so I don’t deserve any winter gloves, just thought I’d share!
Fab giveaway, darling! The coldest temps I have ever experienced were in Aspen – below 0!

Oh cool! I think the coldest temp I’ve experience was 15 to 20 degrees below zero. I am originally from a town close to Lake Michigan, and I used to go there at night to look at the pier, which would become completely covered with solid ice. Very beautiful but SO cold.

I feel like a real braggart, but I do live in Alaska after all. The coldest temps I have experienced were -40 F in Fairbanks, AK. I was very glad I didn’t live there but it was fun to visit and see what real cold was like! I sometimes feel like a wuss living in SE Alaska (I think -10 is the coldest I have seen it here) but it suits me fine.

I follow your blog using the Feed Burner App for Iphone but I usually just check there for an update and then open the page on my computer. I used to use Vienna but it stopped working on my computer

The coldest I ever survived is 0 during a horrible cold snowy winter here in Southern Oregon several years ago. Everyone’s pipes froze, the power was out for days and it was Christmas time. It sucked. We had to have spaghetti for Christmas dinner. Luckily we haven’t had cold like that for a while. 20 is pretty cold here.
Would love to win the hand warmers. Wouldn’t it be funny if the gloves ended up back in Ashland?! And I love your knitting- would behonored to wear them!
oooh – a very happy birthday for Thursday girl!
What a cute giveaway! We are in the middle of summer here in Australia at the moment, so no need for these gorgeous gloves

Happy Early Birthday!
Great giveaway. I can’t wear alpaca either. However I’d love to join in the drawing for the mittens.
The coldest I have been in recent history was -10F this January beside the ski slope watching my family ski.
I’m so impressed with knitting! I am a little intimated by it, so when people can knit up beautiful little items, I’m in awe!
I’m not sure what the coldest temp I’ve been in, but I’d probably go with the single digits. I grew up in TN and it can get cold there in the dead of winter! I just moved to FL and was so excited about the “warm” winters… to bad this year has been the coldest in a long time!
I’ve also been following your blog for a few weeks now! I came across your blog while looking for Tampa crafters… not sure how I came across it, but so glad I did – I love your style and enjoy reading your daily posts!
On the day that I came home from a trip to South America, the temperature at my university in Colorado dipped to -40 degrees Fahrenheit. It was brutal. I’ve experienced negative temperatures lots of times, but that was by far the worst.

I am just cold looking at some of these temperatures. I am in Northern California and our temperatures don’t go near as low as some mentioned above, however, I am always cold and can actually get a chill in Hawaii. The gloves and mittens are so cute and cozy looking.
