"When the weather gets cold"

There are so many fun trends in the style blogging community that I feel like I miss out on because of the balmy climate of Florida.  So when we actually get days below 50 degrees, I take full advantage.  Thus, this entire outfit was built around the premise of layering two pairs of tights.

This really worked out fantastically, because I don’t really like either pair of these tights on their own, but they work really great together.  The pale blue pair is actually capri length, but it’s too sheer for my liking.  The lace pair just feels a bit odd with bare legs underneath.  But match them together (with a pair of socks hidden in the boots for extra warmth) and it all works out.

That denim skirt was a late shopping ban find on Ebay.  I was really tired of how my fly-front denim skirt kept riding up,  so I wanted to find a replacement that had a side zipper, was a bit longer and a bit darker.  I bought this one on a whim (despite the ugly photo in the listing) and it turned out to be exactly what I wanted.  The fabric is a cotton spandex, and it fits beautifully. This will definitely be an all-season wardrobe staple for me.

I really need to knit some more cashmere blend cardigans.  I’ve been wearing this one like crazy lately.  I noticed that this outfit is kind of similar to this one that I wore a few weeks before.  When your winter wardrobe is small, there’s a lot of remixing, but I think this take on the outfit is different enough to not be too repetitive.

Those tights are ridiculously awesome. And I have the same complaints about my fly-front denim skirts. Actually, ALL fly-front skirts. They drive me batty!

  6. Come to think of it, my old (and retired) fly-front skirt rode up all the time, and I could never figure out why…. I no longer feel alone. I love the layered tights here. You look fantastic!

Wow! I’m super jealous of your knitting capabilities! I am way too impatient to knit. And it makes my hand hurt. I prefer sewing projects that I can finish in one day. hehe!

Very creative use of tights, and I love the cardigan and fastener you used.
I think you just gave me a priceless piece of insight as to why some of my skirts ride up – it’s the fly front, is it? Genius, makes sense now I think about it and I can shop more carefully in future…

  16. Kasmira says:

I like how you are standing under the “Stair” sign because those tights definitely say “Stare!”

Layering tights is a great idea, especially in cold weather. And I’ve never heard of a “shawl stick” before — it’s a nice touch.

You have the best luck on ebay – every clothing item I’ve ever purchased has been total crap. You should be my personal ebay shopper :)
