Do you ever have one of those outfits that looks pretty good in pictures, but ends up being not so awesome in real life? That’s how yesterday’s outfit was for me. It involved two pieces that I had really been wanting to wear in a new way, my teal drapey blouse, and a black and white printed skirt that I hadn’t worn in awhile because it’s a bit small on me. I thought that the skirt could work because I’ve lost a few pounds since then. However, this outfit just didn’t work. I had to constantly adjust everything every time I sat down and got up again, which gets annoying really quickly. The skirt is still a bit too small, and wasn’t too flattering. And while the drapey blouse is beautiful, I just don’t think it worked well here. Oh well.

Do you ever have off days like this, where an outfit seems great in theory but turns out otherwise? I had debated not posting this outfit, but then it occurred to everyone probably has a similar experience at some point. And I think it’s good to look at what went wrong and learn from our mistakes.

So what did I learn from this outfit? For one, if something is too small for you, don’t try to force it to work. Either get rid of it, or keep it with other clothes that don’t fit now but might fit when your body is a bit different. Lesson two, listen to your instincts. As I was getting ready to head out the door, I was feeling really dissatisfied with this outfit, but I didn’t want to take the time to put together something else. If I had, I would have been a lot more comfortable yesterday.

Love the belt paired with that skirt! Dressing for your figure is so important. You’re dead on!
You’re right, it does look great in pictures! And yes, I totally have the “great in theory, awful in practice” outfit days. Today was one, in fact! I had on some skinny jeans, cute flats, and a breezy baggy t-shirt. Then Joe said: “so, is that your I’m-waiting-to-decide-what-to-really-wear-today outfit?” Blerg.
Even though you look absolutely fabulous, there’s nothing worse than wearing an outfit all day that just doesn’t work. I definitely know what that’s like, but at least you learned something from it!
I have the opposite problem — I feel like I look good in real life and then I’m disappointed by the photo!
I have so many outfits like that – it can be frustrating. I figure it’s all a learning process. I wore a skirt yesterday that looks similar in style to yours – I was adjusting all day too. It fit fine standing up, but crept up when I sat, so every time I stood I had to yank it down. Annoying.
Huh. It really DOES look fab in these photos … but I hear ya. I definitely have outfits that photograph well but don’t actually WORK in real life.
Ah but I think you look good.
i think its very pretty..love the drapey blouse
but i agree, i hate being in an uncomfortable outfit, you can’t concentrate at work cause youare so busy adjusting your outfit blah!
and with my crappy camera i have those feelings of, this looks good but this damn camera wont capture it…Ugh!
Your top is lovely – what a great color!
Ugh, yes I’ve had those “mishaps,” for lack of a better term, and they stink! But, I think you look darling and I love the color of your blouse.
The top looks fantastic in the photos but it’s definitely different when you’re wearing it yourself. The colour suits you well!
yes – I’ve definitely had that happen – and the reverse as well!
I feel like that sometimes too! Gorgeous blouse!
I’ve totally had that and it does get annoying when you always have to adjust throughout the day. However, you look really cute! love the skirt!
Thank you for having me on your blog roll I have added you to mine!
you look fantastic. love the top and the color.
