I’m beginning to find that some of my best outfits come together when I have a specific challenge or goal in mind. Using Kimberly’s Inspiration Calendar has really been helping me to find new combinations of the limited items in my wardrobe, and I’ve been finding new ways to wear things that I never would have thought of before. Take this outfit for instance. Thursday’s challenge was to wear purple and yellow, which sounded easy to me at first. I instantly knew that I wanted to wear my yellow Fluevog Malibrans, but after that I drew a blank. The goldenrod of the Malibrans can be a hard shade to match, but eventually I decided to wear a eggplant tee with a white striped buttondown layered over it to keep the colors from being too overwhelming. Then I got the awesome idea of wearing my purple necklace as a belt. It turns out to be just the right length to secure around my waist, but something like this could also work with an extender chain if the necklace was too short.

Because of the statement shoes and the eye-catching belt, I kept jewelry to a minimum, only wearing some oxidized sterling hoops. I like how these two colors can look so striking together against a neutral palette.

The necklace-belt did end up increasing the amount of wrinkles in the shirt, but I’m coming to accept the fact that, no matter what you do, cotton button-downs will wrinkle. I’d like to eventually get some silk button-downs to prevent this issue, but for now, I work with what I’ve got.

Don’t you love how Fluevogs can make you jump for joy in your outfit shots and look like a crazy person? Albeit, a stylish crazy person.
