Audi at Fashion for Nerds has a contest ending this weekend where you build an outfit inspired by the above image of an interior. I love this concept of finding inspiration for outfits in what would seem to be unlikely places. When I found the perfect dress on a thrifting trip this weekend, I knew I was ready to give it a shot.

This fab little dress cost all of $12! I need to get the bodice taken in a bit, but that still won’t add too much to the cost. It’s perfect for summer, and it can work for casual wear or work wear, depending on how I style it.

Most of my inspiration came from the colors in the image. This contest was definitely a bit of a challenge for me, since I don’t have a lot of items in those shades. I took the green of the olives and the white of the furniture as my main color, with deep red and pink accents. The only thing I would change with this outfit would be to add more pale pink to it. Unfortunately, the only thing I have in that color is a scoop neck t-shirt, which just looked frumpy layered over or under this dress. Still, I’m happy with how things came out.

Dress: Rampage (thrifted)
Cardigan: Ann Taylor Loft
Belt: Vintage
Shoes: Naturalizer
Scarf: Thrifted
Bangle: Thrifted
Pendant: Lii Lii
Earrings: ???
You got a great buy on that dress. Love the colors in it!

I loooove the dress and the whole look you put together! I think without the cardi and belt (or just with a different cardi) it would work for a daytime dressy event like a wedding.
What an adorable dress – and what a great bargain!
Thanks for participating! I’ll be announcing the winner next week. You look great, and what a fantastic bargain on the dress!
Pretty outfit and a fun idea for inspiration.
