Daily Outfit: Cashmere Wine

Here’s another outfit centered around a buy from Revolve.  This time it’s a gorgeous 100% cashmere DKNY cardigan that I got for $20, a steal for that much cashmere.  The scarf is handknit by me (the pattern is the Lace Ribbon Scarf from Knitty)

Etsy Love: Shades of yellow

First off, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! (And for those not in the States, Happy Weekend!)

Recently, I’ve begun to love accessories in various shades of yellow, particularly lemon and goldenrod.  It may partially be from my obsession with these Fluevogs.

After all, I’ll need to have some matching accessories once I get my beloved shoes right? (Or maybe I’m just enabling myself)

Anyhow, here’s some beautiful jewelry I’ve noticed lately on Etsy.

Daily Outfit: Spicy v 2.0

Today’s outfit was totally built around one of my recent Revolve purchases, a beautiful vintage goldenrod paisley neckscarf.  It reminds me of the color of turmeric, thus the title.  I had to find a way to wear this piece.  It has some red-orange accents, so I combined it with the red bolero re-con, some dark neutrals and voila! Awesome outfit.  The v 2.0 part comes from the fact that I first decided to wear the outfit sans tights, and while it looked cute, I was a bit cold.  Some faux fishnets to the rescue and the outfit was complete.

Bolero – re-con sewn by me
Scarf – vintage (via Revolve)
Camisole- ??? (Ross?)
Skirt – NYC Design Co (Thrifted and re-hemed)
Shoes: Clarks Marillas
Fishnets: ???

The skirt was another recent sewing project.  I’ve had it for awhile, but I never wore it because the hemline fell below my knees and was very unflattering.  I cut off a few inches and used the rollled hem function on my serger. Now I have a sexy, cute “new” skirt to wear.

Daily Outfit(s): Cozy weekends

Sometimes on the weekend, I have the desire to wrap warm, cozy scarves around my neck.  It always perks me up and makes me feel classy and comfortable no matter what I’m wearing.

Black and White and Red all over

Blouse: Target
Bolero: (Sweater re-con sewn by me)
Scarf: Kohls
Jeans: Lucky Brand
Shoes: Born Codders

This outfit fully utilizes one of my favorite color combinations: black, white and red.  These colors always look great together and can move an outfit from okay to classy.  The bolero was a recent re-con project I did.  This was originally a boring sweater that didn’t fit well.  I cut it down the middle and made it a cardigan for awhile, but it still looked frumpy.  Last week, after learning how to do a rolled hem on my serger, I re-hemed this and made it into a bolero, and now it’s one of my favorite things to wear.

Yummy Yellow

Scarf: bought in Chinatown
Camisole: Old Navy
Henley: Daisy Fuentes (via Kohls)
Jeans: Lucky Brand Sweet & Low
Shoes: Aldo
Earrings: Wish By Felicity (etsy)

The focus of this outfit was one of my new favorite colors to wear, yellow.  I find myself increasingly drawn to all shade of yellow lately: goldenrod, lemon etc.  The scarf I bought from a street vendor in Chinatown.  I realize that it’s cheap and maybe not the best quality, but it feels so cozy and warm on.

Reader's Poll: What's in a name?

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

self-portrait(self portrait at the now demolished Albany Hotel in downtown Tampa)

Well my lovely blog readers, this blog has been in transition for a little over a month now.  When I started this blog over a year ago, it was solely dedicated to my knitting, sewing and crafting projects, but my focus both in my life and on this blog has changed in recent months.  I still love crafting and showing photos of my work, but this blog has shifted from a knitting blog to a style blog, and I like it that way.  At this point, I would describe it as a style blog that also features crafting mixed with good fashion sense.

The name Kitty’s Creations (or its variant KittyCreates) was something I first picked back when I started on Craftster and first began to heavily get into crafting.  While the name fit at the time, I feel that I have outgrown it now.  I want something that sounds a little more refined, classier and more mature, to reflect my new outlook on style and life.

Also, this blog is not solely about my creations anymore.

Keeping all this in mind, I would like to choose a new name for my blog.  Something that reflects my style, and maybe even sounds a bit romantic and abstract. And I am currently at a complete loss for any ideas, despite the fact that I’ve been thinking about this all weekend.

Thus, a reader’s poll:  what suggestions do you have for a new name to reflect this blog?

(Note: once the blog name is officially changed, I will be sure to announce it)

Local Review: Revolve Clothing Exchange

Tampa may not be a shopping mecca, but there are some pretty cool places to score used, vintage and indie clothes.  One of my favorites is Revolve Clothing Exchange in Ybor (quick warning: the link is their myspace page and plays music automatically).

2006-09-19-at-12-08-09

If you happen to visit Tampa, you will probably end up in Ybor City at some point.  It’s our historic cigar making district which in the past ten years evolved into our night club district.  (Revolve takes advantage of this by being open late on the weekends).

The store has been in Ybor for awhile now (on 7th Ave), and from the first day that I set foot in the shop, it has been my favorite place to shop in Tampa.  They have a fabulous mix of used, vintage and indie designer clothing at great prices.  I’ve often found name brand items (such as Lucky Brand jeans) at a fraction of the original price.

The best part about Revolve is that you can bring in clothes you don’t wear anymore (men’s and women’s) and if they decide to accept any of it, you get store credit. I did that this weekend and had a min-shopping spree with my $68 store credit! (Pics of what I bought will be coming soon).

The atmosphere of the store is great, the staff are friendly, the clothes are cool and hip.  What more could a girl ask for?

DailyOutfit: A Pop of Color…

…or how I could have made this outfit better.

Yesterday, I was determined to wear tights and a skirt.  The rest of my outfit became centered around this.   However, I found that I was looking oppresively dark and dull.  So I added a beautiful printed scarf to jazz up the outfit.  It worked alright, but the whole day, I kept feeling like my outfit was missing something.

Here’s what I wore:

Scarf – thrifted
Purse – vintage
Shirt – Target
Camisole – Old Navy
Skirt – Worthington (via Revolve)
Tights – Target
Shoes – Clarks

So, the outfit was okay, but with a few additions or changes, it could have been a lot better.  Here’s my ideas:

One: Add a fitted denim jacket to brighten things up.  This would have helped me keep warm in the office and would keep the outfit from looking too dressy.

denim-jackEddie Bauer $59.50

Two: Some red shoes would have added another bit of color to the lower part of my body and played off the scarf.

obrigadaObrigada (via Fluevog) $265

Three: Having a lighter shade of grey tights would have gone better with the skirt and been less dark and depressing

tights

Matte Opaque Tights in Urban Gray (via Banana Republic) $14.50

Four: Having a bag with some color (preferably playing off one of the colors of the scarf) would have made things a little less dark.

Multitask Bag (via Iragrant) $83

Unfortunately, I don’t own any of these things now.  Thus I’ve been putting together a shopping list of things I need to look for whenever I’m out.  I’m trying to get my priority items first.  Money is tight, so I won’t be able to get everything all at once, but at least it will give me some direction when I’m out shopping.

Elizabeth Zimmermann, I have not forgotten thee…

I’ve just been a bit busy lately.

You may remember that my resolution for this year was to work through the projects in Elizabeth Zimmermann (EZ)’s classic, Knitter’s Almanac.  I had been making good progress through July, when I made the pi shawl.   Since then, I made some of the August Christmas “fiddle-faddle”, made a go at the leggings (which turned into legwarmers), but that’s been it.  The October project is a knitted polo, and I just don’t think I’ll ever wear it, so that probably won’t happen.  The November project is a really unique, thick sock (this I will make).  December is an uber bulky sweater with an unusual yoke which would not be flattering on my chest, so that one is out too.

Part of me feels bad for not sticking to my resolution, but at the same time, I don’t want to be legalistic.  I still love EZ and will continue to knit her designs, but these just aren’t for me.

I have been knitting a lot lately though, so here’s some pics.

You may remember my tweedy beret.  I made a scarflette to match.

I’ve been chugging away at a cardigan too, so that should be on here soon.

Etsy Love: Handmade leather bags

Lately, I’ve been craving a leather bag.  Badly.  To the point of drooling.  Well, maybe not drooling, but at least constantly staring at beautifully crafted bags on Etsy.

I’ve found a few sellers in particular that make absolutely amazing authentic leather bags.

First, one of my favorite etsy shops, is Morelle.

I’ve already bought two bags from her (linen, and a linen/cotton blend), and absolutely love them.  She recently starting making bags in leather and suede, and the craftsmanship is superb.  Her designs are feminine and timeless.

Another amazing etsy shop for leather bags is Valhallabrooklyn. These bags have lots of interesting details, including unique stitching and hardware.

Last, but not least, is TheLeatherStore.  These are beautiful, roomy bags in classic colors.

Quality leather bags are worthy investment pieces that last forever, so I’ll probably get one before too long.
